Gilmore Lodge + Seniors’ Wellness Hub

The new Gilmore Lodge and Seniors’ Wellness Centre will provide a welcoming home for residents, families and the community while providing a safe, comfortable work environment for staff. The new 160 bed home features small home-like households of 16 residents, cohesive resident home areas, destination common spaces including a library, chapel, cafe/store, and accessible outdoor courtyards.

Demonstrating leadership, the Niagara Region is pursuing WELL Building Standard certification at the Silver level for this project, delivering a long-term care home with a holistic approach to health in the built environment. Gilmore Lodge is on track to become the first WELL Certified long-term care home in Canada. WELL focuses on seven concepts – air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind – and is made up of over a hundred features that are applied to each building project to address issues that impact health, comfort and the knowledge of occupants.

Constructed on a grey field site and providing sight lines to Lake Erie, the new 3-storey home’s exterior façade is made up of stone, masonry and aluminum composite metal panels providing a durable, low-maintenance building envelope. Transparency and natural light is brought into the building through a combination of a curtain wall and punched windows.

Gilmore Lodge will also be the new home for Niagara Region’s Convalescent Care Program. This program provides quality care to individuals who need time and support to recover from a hospital stay before returning home.

Gilmore’s Seniors’ Wellness Hub features an Adult Day Program area that includes an exercise room, cafe seating, dining, program kitchen, physio-therapy and courtyard access. An EarlyON Centre will be incorporated into the community hub, providing a multi-generational experience to local seniors. Gilmore Lodge welcomed new residents in December 2024.
