Anselma House Women’s Shelter

Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region (WCSWR) operates two emergency shelters for women and children experiencing domestic violence. With 45 beds, this was the largest women’s shelter in Ontario when it opened.

Extensive planning of this specialized facility ensures that it will meet the needs of the women and children it serves. Design features include extensive security, home-like environment, inter-connected bedrooms, child’s play area, teen room, meeting and counseling rooms, secure courtyard with play structure and vegetable garden, and more.

Built on a 1.7-acre greenfield site, the location is ideal and provides easy access to transportation, recreation and shopping. MMMC also designed WCSWR’s sister shelter, Haven House, located in Cambridge.

Anselma House was the winner of City of Kitchener Urban Design Award.
