Niagara Region’s Linhaven LTC is being redeveloped to create a hub of service for seniors, their families and the broader community. The new 256-bed Linhaven will be constructed on the same site, adjacent to the existing home. Once the home is completed and residents have moved, the old Linhaven will be demolished and parking constructed in its place.

As part of the master plan development for this site, the location of the LTC considered potential development strategies to maximize land use potential and synergies for the entire site and community at large.

The new Linhaven Long-term Care and Seniors’ Wellness Centre provides a welcoming home for residents, clients and the community and a safe and comfortable work environment for staff. The new LTC home will feature small home-like households of 16 residents, cohesive resident home areas, destination common spaces including a library, chapel, cafe/store, 1950’s Diner, auditorium and accessible outdoor spaces.

The Seniors’ Wellness Centre features an Adult Day Program area, exercise room, cafe seating, program kitchen and dining, conference room and courtyard.

Demonstrating leadership, the Niagara Region is pursuing WELL Building Standard certification at the Silver level for this project. WELL is a vehicle for organizations to deliver more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and well-being. WELL includes designing a healthy work environment for staff. Linhaven features a staff exercise room, staff courtyard, locker rooms with showers, and staff room with attached quiet room.

Enhanced infection, prevention and control measures have been included in the design such as additional hand wash sinks, private and semi-private resident rooms, specialized mechanical systems and flexible design to allow for social distancing.
