An existing two storey 15-unit seniors’ affordable rental apartment building was expanded with a new two storey building containing 22 one-bedroom apartment units, 1 one-bedroom barrier free apartment, 2 two-bedroom apartment units, a multi-purpose room, kitchenette, storage, refuse and recycle collection and compaction rooms, laundry, washrooms, workshop and workshop storage, elevator lobbies, and an administration office.   A link corridor system joins the new building to the existing, and required the conversion of 4 existing one-bedroom units into 2 two-bedroom units to accommodate the connection. Sustainable design was incorporated to lower ongoing operational costs.

Universal design principles have been incorporated into all units and amenity spaces to provide the residents a safe and secure environment.  Each ground floor apartment unit has level access to a private patio complete with small garden.  The multi-purpose room has a large outdoor covered terrace and community gardens directly adjacent.

MMMC Architects have successfully guided the project through a re-zone application process involving community meetings and presentation, and site plan application.
