A well-established telecommunications company, Extend purchased “Chelsea Place”, a two-storey brick heritage building built in 1928. Presently a multi-tenant building, Extend Communications chose to occupy a vacant suite of approximately 6,500 SF on the Ground Floor.

MMMC Architects looked into the historic background of the building, and encouraged Extend Communications to restore some of the building’s historic character. In the proposed design, MMMC exposed the concrete column and beam structure within and used the strong existing architectural features to inform the design of the interior spaces. A high priority was to bring more natural light into the office space, especially into areas of the plan where only borrowed light was available.

Their new office space includes private and group offices, administration and I.T. space, an impressive conference room, staff lounge and amenity spaces, and the operations room. MMMC worked through many iterations of the schematic design layout, looking specifically at adjacencies of staff members and the relationships of the roles everyone played in the company.

MMMC Architects created a complete interior finishes package for the project with lighting playing an important role in creating the desired atmosphere in each space.
